Fall Fun in Florida: Why We Love Autumn in Sarasota and Bradenton

When you think of fall, Florida may not be the first place that comes to mind. We may not have the changing leaves, crisp 50-degree afternoons or apple orchards you’ll find up north, but fall on Florida’s Gulf Coast has a charm all its own.

Here in the Sarasota-Bradenton area, fall means warm sunny days, slightly cooler evenings, gorgeous Gulf sunsets and the beginning of one of our favorite times of year to get outside and enjoy everything this area has to offer.

And yes…we still have pumpkins!

Fall Festivals, Pumpkins & Local Fun

If you need a little traditional fall mixed in with your palm trees, there are plenty of opportunities.

One longtime local favorite is the Hunsader Farms Pumpkin Festival in Bradenton, happening October 10–11, 17–18 and 24–25 this year. From pumpkins and hayrides to live music, a craft show, petting zoo, corn maze and plenty of fall treats, it’s a fun way to get your pumpkin fix without giving up the Florida sunshine.

Fruitville Grove in Sarasota also celebrates throughout October with its annual Pumpkin Festival, featuring pumpkins, hayrides, entertainment, activities for the kids and plenty of fall fun.

Another local option is the Dakin Dairy Farms Harvest Festival in Myakka City, taking place October 10–25 on select weekends. Think pumpkins with a Florida farm twist—live music, food trucks, vendors, hayrides and even calf cuddling.

And if markets are more your speed, fall also brings the return of the Bradenton Public Market on Old Main Street. Beginning in October, Saturdays are filled with local produce, artisans, food, music and that great community atmosphere we love about downtown Bradenton.

Fall Looks a Little Different Here

One of our favorite things about living in this area is that fall doesn't mean packing away the flip-flops and waiting six months to enjoy the outdoors again.

This is the time of year when you can spend the morning walking the beach, have lunch outside, head to a farmers market, play a round of golf, kayak, bike or take the boat out—and still catch an amazing Gulf Coast sunset at the end of the day.

You can spend the afternoon on Anna Maria Island, wander St. Armands Circle, explore downtown Sarasota, grab dinner at Waterside Place in Lakewood Ranch or simply enjoy an evening outside on your own lanai.

That's our version of sweater weather. Although, let's be honest, the sweater may not come out until after sunset.

And Then There's the Real Estate Side of Fall…

Fall is also an interesting time in Sarasota and Bradenton real estate.

As we head toward the winter months, our seasonal residents begin returning and snowbirds start thinking seriously about where they want to spend the colder months. For some, another winter up north is exactly what finally gets them thinking:

“Why don't we have a place down here?”

We understand that feeling!

Whether you're considering a condo near the beach, a golf-course community, a low-maintenance villa, a second home in Lakewood Ranch or Parrish, or you're ready to make Southwest Florida your full-time home, there are so many different lifestyles and communities to explore.

And that's one of the things we love most about real estate here. Buying a Florida home isn't only about bedrooms, bathrooms and square footage. It's about figuring out what you want your life here to look like.

Do you want to walk to restaurants and shops? Be close to the beach? Live in a gated community? Golf? Boat? Have a private pool? Spend winters here and summers up north? Or maybe you're finally ready to trade snow shovels for palm trees permanently.

Those questions matter just as much as the house itself.

Thinking About Making Florida Part of Your Story?

Sometimes the best way to decide if an area is right for you is simply to spend time here and experience it like a local.

Visit the farmers markets. Drive through different neighborhoods. Spend an afternoon in Sarasota and another in Bradenton. Explore Lakewood Ranch, Parrish, Anna Maria Island and some of the communities in between. Grab dinner outside, watch the sunset and picture what an ordinary Tuesday might look like if you lived here.

Because that's really what you're buying—not just a Florida house, but the lifestyle that comes with it.

And if somewhere between the pumpkin festivals, beach walks and Gulf Coast sunsets you start thinking, “I could get used to this…” give the Florida Home Girls a call.

We'd love to help you find your own little piece of Florida.
